April Update
Each morning, weather unfactored, this trio heads to a mountain. When we begin, we are three alone, each on our own wake up plan. Fig steals a forgotten hiking stick a fellow hiker left behind and trots up, always first, always alert. Next comes me. I plod along with little spring in my step for the first few pitches. I listen to the quiet. And then to the birds. The song vibrating into my bones. Skye hangs back. Sniffing. Searching. Prancing. Ball in his jaw. Smile forever broad.
Up and up we travel, our thoughts on our purposes. I write stories and float off with my imagination into other worlds until one of the boys appears, tail wagging to ground me into this moment again.
Without fail as we wind our way to the top, we join as a trio again, and triumph as one.
Together, we romp all the way down, awakened for today.
This is our dance, our ritual, our morning song.
May your morning song fill your every cell with vibrant certainty for the beauty ahead of you. May we dance together and triumph as one.

Forage Fleur
An excerpt from a new romance piece I’m writing.
Venka Skye let the rain douse her, head to foot, forming a puddle around her toes. Her silver hair matted to her chest and face. She blinked, flicking droplets away, only to have them return. Her heartbeat slow, and tired. Her body exhausted; energy draining from her with the rain. But the issue was not the rain. The rain was the only light at the end of the tunnel.
“Ven?”
She turned.
The rain vanished.
“You okay?”
“Hugo?”
“Why are you standing in the middle of the road?”
“I came to enjoy the rain.”
Hugo raised his palms, searching for a sign of water. He looked up to the cloudless blue sky. Sun forcing him to squint. He smiled at her. “Should we go for a walk in the woods?”
“I would love that,” Venka said. “I know a special place. . .”
